The green product industry has exploded in the last few years. Whereas ecologically produced and packaged consumer goods were once relegated to offbeat niche stores in liberal cities, they have now garnered the love and devotion of a good deal of the population. Great news right? Well, it should be. But as soon as ethically dubious people discover that there’s money to be made in a particular industry, they tend to flock to it. Just so with the green products business. Employing a devious marketing tactic called greenwashing, hundreds have companies have infiltrated boutique stores and big retailers alike, fooling shoppers into thinking their products are truly green.
